Controlling Pests In Your Yard: What You Should Be Doing

Pests large and small can be invading your yard and eventually invade your home as well. Pests will come to your yard for food or because they've found a nice place to nest and have their babies. The pests are coming to your yard for a reason and you have to find that reason in order to prevent them from coming back and returning. Read on for some pest control tasks you should be doing in your own yard.

Trim Your Trees And Other Landscaping

The landscaping around your home may be what is attracting the pests to your yard. If you have tall grass and low-hanging trees, for instance, you may have pests because they can easily move around without being spotted. They can get up into the trees and down into the grass when necessary and go unseen or unnoticed. Other smaller pests may like your tall grasses as well such as ants, roaches, termites, and mice, as they can hide easily in the tall grass and get around easily, hide easily, nest, and find the food they need in your grass or get them to where they can find food easily. You need to trim back those low-hanging branches and remove dead limbs that may attract pests such as termites and carpenter ants. Remove overgrowth and trim your lawn, keeping it mowed weekly so it doesn't get too tall.

Fence-In Gardens

If you have a garden or multiple gardens where larger pests can easily find food to eat, you should fence them in to prevent pests such as raccoons or opossums from getting to the garden for a free meal. Other pests may also like your garden, which is why you should keep an eye on it, spraying it with a safe pesticide to keep other pests out as well.

Remove Standing Water

Standing water can be a lure for a number of pests, specifically mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can breed very quickly when they have standing water to lay their larvae. When you have standing water around your yard, or in pots, birdbaths, or other items, you need to remove the water to prevent the mosquitoes from breeding. Mosquitoes may not come into your home to infest your house, but they can make going outside difficult to enjoy.

If you have pest issues in your yard, you can hire a pest control company to help you get rid of them before they become a problem for you inside your home as well.
